Abolish unpaid internships, bring back apprenticeships.
“You don’t have to pay me, but I’m going to live with you from now on.”
Apprenticeships are still a thing in most of the trade unions. Like, how you become an electrician is you start out as an apprentice and they simultaneously have you do grunt work for a real electrician and take classes on how electricity works. You start out at close to minimum wage but every like 6 months of work plus exam you pass gives you another fraction of the pay a real electrician gets, until three years later you’re an actual professional and suddenly you’re in charge of training the next set of apprentices while they do your grunt work for you.
Do this, but for everything.
